Coach Liedberg is a 2009 graduate of Pope High School where he was a key member of the 2009 Pope Baseball state championship team that finished ranked 10 th in the country. As a fire-balling pitcher, Coach Liedberg continued his pitching career at Gardner Webb University in Shelby North Carolina for the Running Bulldogs.

Liedberg joined the Pope coaching staff in 2018 after choosing to leave the corporate world to pursue a career in education. As part of the baseball staff, Liedberg has been instrumental in securing the state championship in 2022 as well as back to back state championship game appearances in 2018 and 2019. Liedberg has been on staff at Pope for 6 full season (plus the Covid season of 2020) and has qualified for the state championship series 5 of the 6 seasons he has been on staff. The lone time Liedberg did not participate in the state championship was the 2021 season where the Hounds progressed to the Final 4.

Liedberg’s 2022 pitching staff posted an astounding 2.95 ERA and set the tone for Hounds posting 6 shutouts and only surrendering 1 run nine separate times including surrendering 2 runs total in the state championship series against a nationally ranked Allatoona squad who had only lost 4 games the entire season entering the contests. The 2022 staff also set records for saves in a season with Carson Kerce securing 9 of the 10 team saves enroute to a new single season saves record and Dawson Campbell tied the single season record for wins in a season with 12 W’s.

In the recent 3 year run to the state championship series, Liedberg’s pitching staffs have posted sub 3.00 ERA’s with the 2023 team posting the 9th best ERA in school history at 2.81 and the 2024 staff posting an impressive 2.98 ERA.

Liedberg took over the reigns as head pitching coach for the Greyhounds in 2020 was a key reason why the Greyhounds advanced to the final four during the 2021 season with his signature win coming in extra inning shutout fashion over the #1 ranked team in the country in the 2nd round of the 2021 playoffs.

For Liedberg’s efforts with the 2021 pitching staff he was named Assistant baseball coach of the year by the Georgia Dugout Club.

Coach Liedberg also works as an assistant coach with the Pope Fastpitch program where he played an integral part in capturing the 2019 and 2022 state championships as well as leading the program to the state championship game in 2018, 2020 and 2023. During the 2019 season, the team ended the season on a 23 game winning streak and the 2022 team posted a 35-1 record due in large part to Coach Liedberg’s advance scouting. Coach Liedberg has also helped to secure 6 region championships for the Pope Fastpitch program and Coach Liedberg has been named as a positive coach by Positive Athlete Georgia on 3 separate occasions.

After completing his playing career, Coach Liedberg worked multiple jobs in the baseball field working as operations manager for 6-4-3 baseball and serving a short stint as an intern with the Atlanta Braves. It was during his stint with the Braves that Coach Liedberg realized his true calling was the education field, and Coach Liedberg went back to school to earn his education degree so he could become a teacher.

Coach Liedberg resides in Woodstock Georgia with his wife Emily.
